September on Île de Ré: a season in its own right at L’
A different light, atmosphere, and rhythm
Imagine the same scenery as in July—the blue of the Atlantic, the white-washed streets of Ars-en-Ré, the salt marshes glistening in the golden hour—but without the crowds of peak season. In September, the Île de Ré catches its breath. There are fewer vacationers, bikes ride more freely on the paths, and the village terraces quiet down. It’s a special kind of tranquility that many of our regulars look forward to all year long.
Late summer is all about freedom. Freedom to stroll, to go for a bike ride without a care in the world, to take the time to watch the sky change color over the dunes. That’s the kind of pace we love to share with you in September.

Beaches just a short walk away
From Les Dunes campground, the beach is just a ten-minute walk away via the forest path that runs alongside our property. The sand is still warm, and the Atlantic waters retain the heat they’ve absorbed all summer long. The island’s beaches remain among the most beautiful on the French Atlantic coast—and in September, you can enjoy them to the fullest, in peace and quiet.
What's in store for you at Les Dunes in September
The heated pool, always open
Our heated pool remains open all season long, until the campground closes at the end of September: it’s a real treat to take a dip after a morning of biking or a stroll through the marshes. The wading pool for toddlers is also available in a separate, secure area. Deck chairs await you around the pool for afternoons spent basking in the sun and enjoying the peace and quiet.

Available activities and services
In September, our essential services remain available to support you throughout your stay. The snack bar is open, and you’ll find a games area inside—featuring board games and a book exchange—for cooler evenings. The pétanque courts, ping-pong tables, and beach volleyball court are at your disposal. Our indoor fitness area is also open so you can stay in shape, even while on vacation.
You can rent bikes directly at the campground or from partner rental shops in Ars-en-Ré, just a few minutes’ bike ride away. We recommend reserving your bike in advance: in September, bike rides on the island’s trails remain very popular.
Places to explore nearby
Enjoying September also means taking the time to discover what the island has to offer off the beaten path. Ars-en-Ré, a village listed among the most beautiful in France, is just 1.5 km from the campground—a short walk or a quick bike ride away. The local market, the narrow streets with their mauve-painted facades, the black-and-white bell tower that guides sailors: this is the soul of Ré in all its simplicity.
Just a few miles away, Saint-Clément-des-Baleines and its lighthouse offer a breathtaking view of the Atlantic. The salt marshes surrounding the campground are ablaze with their most beautiful autumn hues—ochre, pink, and silver—in the September light. It is one of the most memorable sights that the Ré region’s natural landscape has to offer at this time of year.
